Renal Profile: learn about Ebram's reagents that help diagnose, prevent and treat kidney diseases

The kidneys are vital organs that perform essential functions for the human body, such as filtering the blood to eliminate toxic substances from the metabolism, maintaining the balance of electrolytes, producing hormones, among other functions.

Laboratory tests should be carried out regularly because they can diagnose serious diseases and complications early on, such as nephritis, kidney cancer, diabetic nephropathy and chronic kidney disease (CKD) - which affects around 10 million people throughout Brazil, according to the Ministry of Health.

In the clinical laboratory, the set of tests that provide information on the functioning of the kidneys is called the Renal Profile. These are:

Blood tests: Creatinine, Urea, Glomerular Filtration Rate (GFR), Cystatin C, Electrolytes, Proteins, Phosphorus, Calcium, Proteinuria, Glucose, Chlorides and Uric Acid;
Urine tests: Complete urine analysis (CAS), urine protein-creatinine ratio and urine sediment.

Of the tests mentioned above, Ebram offers reagents belonging to the biochemistry line, all of which are single-reagent, as mentioned below:

Reagent: Quimicrea - Creatinine. Code: 3004/13004
It is the only single-reagent version on the market, with excellent stability and no risk of precipitation. Creatinine is a well-known and useful marker of kidney function. Its levels directly reflect the kidneys' ability to filter the blood and eliminate metabolic waste.

Reagent: Quimiure - Urea. Code: 3007/13007

It is the only single-agent version on the market. It has good stability, greater precision and reproducibility of results. Urea is a substance produced in the liver from protein metabolism and is eliminated by the kidneys. The amount of urea in the blood indicates the efficiency of the kidneys in filtering and excreting this waste product.

Quimifos - Phosphorus. Code 3010/13010
Single-reagent version, with good stability, greater precision, reproducibility and drag-free. Phosphorus is essential for evaluating the kidneys, due to its relationship with electrolyte balance in the body.

Reagent: Quimical - Calcium. Code: 3008/13008
Single-reagent version, with good stability, high precision, reproducibility and drag-free. It is essential for assessing kidney function, as the kidneys play a fundamental role in regulating calcium levels in the body, controlling the absorption, reabsorption and excretion of calcium and ensuring that blood levels remain within an appropriate range.

Reagent: Quimiprot - U - Proteinuria. Code: 3053
Single-reagent version with wide linearity (400mg/dL). It is essential for assessing kidney health, as it detects the abnormal presence of proteins in the urine.

Reagent: Quimiuric - Uric Acid. Code: 3000/13000
Single reagent version and less photosensitive formulation. Uric acid is a waste product generated as a result of the breakdown of purines, which are used for different metabolic processes in the body.

Reagent: Chemichlor - Chlorides. Code: 3029/13029
Single-reagent version, with good stability, high precision, reproducibility and drag-free. Chlorides are important in assessing kidney health due to their association with electrolyte balance in the body.

Reagent: Quimiglic - OX - Glucose Oxidase. Code: 3034/13034
Single-reagent version, with good stability, high precision and reproducibility. Glucose can be used as an indirect marker of kidney function, especially in patients with diabetes or at risk of developing the disease.

Main differentials

The reagents in the single-reagent version offer a number of significant advantages, such as greater stability, guaranteeing consistent results during the routine and minimizing the need for frequent recalibrations.

Without the need to prepare the working reagent, it is possible to save time, resources, avoid reagent losses, reduce human errors, providing practicality for the routine, greater operational efficiency and consequently increased reliability and accuracy of results.
